UFBA's Graduate Program in Language and Culture (PPGLinC) has been functioning since 2010 as the result of the division of the former Graduate Program in Letters and Linguistics (PPGLL). The division was recommended by CAPES' Technical Scientific Council (CTC) during the 112th meeting in 2009, granting the program with a 5 in the ranking that goes from 3 to 7.  

UFBA's Graduate Program in Language and Culture offers full MA's and PhD courses in two main areas, Historic Linguistics and Contemporary Languages and Cultures, holding 11 lines of research in both areas, counting on 37 permanent professors all with a PhD degree.
